TRANSFERS, BIRTHDAYS, and NEPHI

Today we had transfers!!!!  I was 100% sure that Hna Garcia and I wouldn´t have transfers, becuase we´ve only been togeather for 3 weeks.....  My new compaion is Hna Crump from Utah.  I´m super excited to be working with her!  But now I will be the one who is alway in our sector with other Hernamas, and she will be traveling!  I´m excited to stay in my secter for the splits!  There are so many things I want to do!  Hna. Crump has lots of energy and is super obedient, and just a little crazy : )  but good crazy!  She has 3 months less in the mission than I do and has been working as a leader in a diffrent part of Santiago.

This week was my birthday, and it was just wonderful!!!  My amazing comp (Hna Garcia, at the time) made me breakfast and then we had our weekly District class (when we meet with all of the missionaries in our part of Santiago). They sang happy birthday, and we ate cookies.  Then we were going to go the the house of Nicole (a member here) to have a lession with Gerson (one of the people we are teaching), and they suprised me with a cake : ) Really the people are so good to me here!

I realized this week my letters have been a little lame lattly so I´ll try to step it up with this week!

One of our investigatores is named Gerson (in the picture with the cake)  He is about 25 and is making big changes in his life!  He seems much more content and happy now!  But the proplem is that he works.... a lot.  He is a chef, and has been asking for Sundays off be able to go to church for the whole time, and........ he finallly has Sundays FREE!!! I´m so excited to see how he progresses!

In my studies I have been reading the Book of Mormon, and I am struck by how much we can aply it to our own lives!  In fact, it was written by the prophets thousands of years ago for our day!  I know that it is a true book and was written for us!

I love you all and hope that your week will be spirit filled!

SPLITS!!!

This week we had 3 splits: ) Which means I was traveling to different parts of Santiago for three days (in a row) this week!! I really, really enjoyed it, but I was dead beat by the end : )

My highlight was with Hna. Riveros from Peru! She´s new in the mission, and it was her one-month-in-the-mission birthday. I wanted to do something special for her, so we had a birthday party during dinner : ) I made brownies, and we had ice cream! Right before we went to bed, we took time to enjoy the skyline (amazing!!!) and talk about all the potential the people have, and how much God loves us to give us the chance to fulfill that potential. It was way fun, but what was better is when she told me it was her best day in the mission : ) That is what I live for, hearing that in my own small way I got to help someone else feel happy : ) I also got to go back to Renca (My first sector) and reconnect with a lot of the people I met there : )

This week I read a lot about Nephi in the Book of Mormon. I love the example he gives of exact obedience to the commandments of God. I want to be like Nephi. It doesn´t matter how many friends I make, or if anyone listens to this message, if we are obedient, God will be happy with us, and we will know that we did his work. I want to help the other Hermanas in my group feel the peace that God gives us when we are following his will! In 1 Nephi 17:15, Nephi gave me a perfect answer of how to do this.  “Wherefore, I, Nephi, did strive to keep the commandments of the Lord, and I did exhort my brethren to faithfulness and diligence.¨¨

He chose to be the example, Invited others to do the same, and that’s it. We can only be examples and invite, then it is their turn to chose what they will do.

I love the Book of Mormon, I love my companion, I love Santiago, and I love serving the Lord.

Sed de buen animo!

Con MUCHO amor,

FRIENDS FROM HAITI!

We´ll make this one short and sweet : )

This week was amazing! I love Hna. Garcia and being able to get to know our sector and the other sisters in our group!

But hands down the best part of this week was teaching our new friends from Haiti! There are actually a lot of people from Haiti here in Chile, and they usually speak only a little Spanish, because the native language there is French : ) We met Casimir on the street two weeks ago and were finally able to teach him yesterday! We ended up teaching him and his three friends whom all spoke varying levels of Spanish. But with the help of the Spirit and a translator (another member who is from Haiti), we were able to teach them about the restored gospel of Christ: this good news that once again we have the same church that Christ himself established on the earth 2 thousand years ago!  I know this is true, and I am so happy to share it with everyone! It’s true whether it´s in English, Spanish, or French!

I hope that you all can feel the love and hope that Christ has for you! He always provides a way!

Hello everyone! I hope that your New Year’s was amazing! Ours was a little hextic : ) That afternoon, the new companion of Hna McCoard’s came (Hna Lopez from Argentina), and I left to go to my new sector! I got to spend the day with Hna Garcia and Hna Broadhead before Hna Broadhead finished her mission the next day. It was sad to see her go, but I’m excited for her to start the next chapter of her life :)

This week Hna Garica and I meet a man who only speaks FRENCH! Though I studied French in high school, it seems that Spanish has taken up the only foreign language space in my brain . ) But Hna Garcia and I have a Book of Mormon in French, so we are trying to learn a little bit, so that we can communicate : ) I know that we will be able to do all that the Lord needs, even if we don’t speak his language!

This week I had my first split (when I trade places with a Hermana for the day)! Funny enough, my first split was with...... Hna McCoard : ) Everyone we saw was a little confused; "wait, your back???" Hahaha, I was grateful to come back, if only for the day : )

This week, as a whole mission, we started reading the Book of Mormon again with the goal to finish together by the 31st of May! I Love the Book of Mormon and know that it’s true! I was reading in Nephi 3: 7. In this part Nephi (a prophet in the Book of Mormon) shows his willingness to follow the Lord even when it looks impossible. This week I have been praying that I can put the will of the Lord before my own. We can not know what will happen to us, nor where he will send us, but we can serve with Joy in the place that we are.  I will, like Nephi, try to say,  "I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them."

I know that this is true!

Keep your chin up and know that God is with you : )

Sed de Buen animo!

PS Thank you for your support and prayers.
