This week has been the hardest, but best week of my mission thus far.
So, all North Americans who come to the CCM in Chile stay here for 6-weeks and the Latinos stay for 2, so at Alcantra (where we are housed) there is my district (with 4 girls and 2 elders) and the rest (about 15 North Americans and 20 Latinos) left this morning. It was sad to see them go. I love the other Hermanas! It’s crazy how close you become when you’re in a foreign country in close quarters. I will miss them!
But the Latinos keep us laughing! I try to eat meals with Latinos and only use Spanish.... It includes many English words with O’s at the ends and quite a bit of Spanglish sign language, but we eventually get our points across : ) One day, at dinner, we were talking with one Elder and he informed me that there were snails in my food. Once I figured out what he was saying he couldn’t control his laughter... Us Gringos do the best we can : ) (yes we are usually referred to as Gringos, which they tell me isn´t offensive in Chile.....I think they may just be trying to make me feel better about myself)
I was feeling a little down about my Spanish, it does not come easy to me, but we had a devotional on Sunday about Saint Peter. I was reminded that Peter wasn´t always perfect, sometimes he was just good sweet Peter doing the best he could, but through Cristo he was made great! I know I can´t be perfect, at Spanish or at teaching BUT I do know I can be Good Sweet Hermana Fullmer, and that is all I need to be! If I love Cristo and Feed his Sheep, I know I will be made strong!!
Guess what?!?! We are getting new missionaries in tomorrow.... 32 new Elders and Hermanas and the best part, they are all Latinos!!!! It’s going to be a blast!
On our free day (we get this once a week) we get to explore the city! This city is truly amazing! Everything is so bright and cheerful! This week we got to stop by a mall, and ate fresh chileano bread as we walked! I am so grateful for this wonderful experience!
